Solar Technology Basics

An astounding amount of solar energy strikes the surface of the Earth every day. In the continental United States, an area the size of a football field receives the energy equivalent of some 700 barrels of oil daily. Globally, the amount of solar energy striking the Earth’s surface in an hour, if captured, would more than meet the energy demand of the entire planet!

NPT’s systems are designed to capture solar energy as heat. As the sun warms a moving column of air, heat is ‘banked’ in a proprietary storage system utilizing Phase Change Materials (PCMs) to maximize thermal capacity in minimal space. Heat exchangers and monitoring and control systems then direct heat as needed to the application systems, producing the desired results.

These systems enable the replacement of conventional (i.e., fossil fuel or electrically powered) furnaces, air conditioners and water heaters, and can be adapted to serve low-, medium- and high-density residential buildings, mixed-use commercial buildings and industrial structures.
